The first example we can look at is a promotion that’s done about $30 million, called the IMPACT System.
If you haven’t read it, you can access it here. (Or download the PDF here)
What this could have been is something Ordinary like:
Jim Rickards introduces new options trading strategy to take advantage of currency fluctuations.
That’s really what the strategy is.
But options trading strategies sound really complicated and extremely risky, and currency fluctuations might freaks a lot of people out. I think that would have failed.
If you compare that to:
Jim Rickards’ IMPACT System is the only way we’ve ever found that could have allowed you to profit an extraordinary 1200% from currency wars, using the same secrets developed by the CIA to predict terrorist attacks.
The next example was one that Scott Bardelli wrote called “Canadian Social Security, a front-end promotion.” (snippet here)
Basically, the idea was you, too, can make steady, dependable returns investing in blue-chip stocks. Wow, that’s exciting. I mean, that sounds really boring, right? That’s the ordinary idea.
It sounds like something we’ve heard a zillion times before, but essentially, that is the secret of Canadian Social Security.
He added a bunch of proof in there about how that really is the same strategy used by the Canadian pension plan, and he added other proof of a real-life person using this to get $400 to almost $5,000 a month.
The idea of piggybacking is really intriguing, I think, to people. It is an example of an extraordinary idea.
So, you see how something like a blue-chip investing strategy can be taken and turned into a big idea?
OK, so I’ll give you the last example.
It started out with:
How to make money selling naked put options.
Most people have no idea what a naked put option is. It sounds kind of… the naked part’s kind of weird.
That became something big, like:
Watch as we show three complete strangers how to instantly generate $127 cash in under three minutes without trading a single share of stock, without buying an option and without ever even touching a mutual fund.
That’s definitely a big idea, to see somebody doing this live, outrageous social experiment on the streets of Baltimore.
The goal in doing this was to pay these people out and showing them how easy the strategy was.
Agora wanted them to be like, “Oh, my fucking God! I can’t believe I just generated 300 fucking dollars in 30 seconds!”
The best they’ve got was some woman saying,
I couldn’t believe I made 300 bucks on my way to Burger King.
It’s still pretty decent, not exactly what they wanted, but you can see how random things in your life can generate ideas here.
That idea didn’t come from them reading a textbook.
That idea came from Joe (Head honcho at Agora Financial) being super lazy, sitting in bed one night watching the street magician David Blaine, going, “Fuck! David Blaine is the man. That’s amazing. I want to do that to people, too. How do I do that? I don’t know magic.”
So that’s where the idea came from, but it was that constant sharpening of the ax again.

What are some other elements of a big idea?
It’s ONE great idea.
It’s NOT a mix of mediocre ones.
Sometimes you may have heard around here the rule of one. It’s just one thing. It’s not a mix of boring things. You should do just one big idea.
A big, believable promise of transformation results in an outcome that has to have some sort of promise in there that it’s going to benefit the person looking at it, their life, in a way they can instantly understand.
It’s unique, original, unexpected and different from what the prospect has seen before. Any way you can make the idea seem new, that can make it big. It’s specific, concrete, tangible.
It’s not abstract or confusing. It’s arresting, startling. It needs to shock them out of complacency.
It should be easy to grasp with instant appeal.
